Insider knowledge: Amsterdam's hidden gems

While visiting Amsterdam you'll probably pass all the well-known highlights. However, we understand that you would like to see much more uncommon places as well. We therefore made a list of some hidden gems in Amsterdam that are definitely worth a visit. Let us know if you liked it!

Our hidden gems are:

1. Vondelbunker

Vondelbunker is an old nuclear shelter built under a bridge in the 'Vondelpark' (Amsterdam's central park). It's now a place for cultural activities and events including concerts, cinema nights and arts exhibitions. There is also a micro beer brewery called 'Bunkerbier'. 2. Goatsfarm Riddammerhoeve (goatfarm)

Located in the middle of the Amsterdamse Bos (Amsterdam forest) is a goatsfarm where you can interact with animals, do a workshop and taste the farm food. Next to goats there are also chickens, pigs, cows and horses! The farm has a kitchen garden with lot's of herbs and vegetable's and you'll be able to make and taste your own (goats)cheese! 3. Mediamatic

A fascinating place where art, science, culture and technology meet. In Mediamatic you'll find all kinds of innovative project, art exhibitions and events. They also organize lectures and workshops. Mediamatic is located just a stone's trow away. Visit their website to explore what they do.

4. Tiny Hidden Houses

In the Jordaan are some tiny houses hidden between the crack of the houses. You'll have to take a very close look to spot these tiny hidden houses. Want to find the tiny houses? Look for them on the Westerstraat. Good luck finding the tiny houses!

5. Coffee & Coconuts

One of Amsterdam's must-visit café. Located in the old Ceintuur theater (cinema). Now it's a cozy café where you can enjoy quality coffee and homemade food. The hot choco and the Apple crumble are among our suggestions from the menu. Take a look at their website to check out the menu.

6. Het Stadspaleis

Just a small distance form the Dam Square where you can find one of Amsterdam's gems, the café the 'Stadspaleis'. This tiny building houses a cozy café where they only serve biological products. They have taste sandwiches, soups and salads. Inside there are a couple of small table and there is a small terrace outside where you can enjoy this little quiet place in the middle of Amsterdam. 7. Museum Vrolik

Want to visit a different kind of museum than the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum. Then we recommend you to visit Museum Vrolik. In this museum the human body is the central focus and you'll learn about how our bodies look like on the inside. The museum has a collection of around 10,000 specimens of anatomical preparations and skeletons of humans and animals. It's located in the Academic Medical Centre of Amsterdam, visit their website to plan your trip.

8. Trippenhuis

The 'Trippenhuis' is the biggest house in Amsterdam. It was built by the wealthy Trip brothers in 1666 and is 22 meters wide. It's one of the most important example's of Dutch architecture in the Golden Age and therefore definitely worth a visit. The address of the Trippenhuis is Kloveniersburgwal 27-29.

9. Het Kleinste Huis Amsterdam

In opposite, Amsterdam has a residence that's only 2 meters wide. However, there is a lot that is going on in this tiny space. There is a tea house called 'Het Kleinste Huis' (the smallest house) of Amsterdam. This is the perfect place to have brunch or of course an high tea. Make a reservation via their website as there is limited space!

10. De Krul

In the city center of Amsterdam you'll find a lot of 'de Krul' (the curl). Don't get yourself fooled, these are not art sculptures. They are public toilets! You'll find most of the 'Kruls' in the city center of Amsterdam and near the canals. Did you ever spot one?
